Wyvern 200

A Thoroughbred Racing Machine!

Wyvern 200 Notes:

Invariably a moment comes when you want to try your hand at racing a quadcopter. We searched high and low for what we thought would be the best compromise of performance, durability, repairability and overall fun. There were some good candidates on the market but all of them had some little quirk or other that just didn’t sit right with us. We wanted something that would be a true X frame for symmetrical performance, have centralized mass for quick changes in direction but still provide excellent protection for all the running gear. We set up to design a compact frame that could handle 5” props, would be simple and light-weight but would not require practically a complete new airframe if you were to break an arm.

With these goals in mind we designed the Wyvern. It’s a super durable frame with replaceable arms and a complete cage enclosing the running gear. The main frame is held together with only 4 bolts and an interlocking geometry and the roll cage has an additional 8 bolts (4 top & 4 bottom), this keeps the amount of hardware and the weight to a minimum. We also designed the kit with a bunch of convenience feature such as an adjustable camera mount that will go from 25° to 55°, built in LEDs and supply a PDB with 5V and 12V regulators. Heck, we even pre-install the clinch nuts for you so that all you have to do is bolt the frame together when you get it.

Oh yeah, and did we mention, it’s fast! As in “bring a spare set of shorts” fast! The first few were set up with very standard setups and we couldn’t believe our eyes, not only does it have incredible acceleration but it also turns on a dime. All the effort we spent in keeping it strong, light and aerodynamically efficient certainly paid off and we are very proud of the result.

Feature Highlights

Recommended Equipment

Please note that Quad Monsters does not endorse any particular equipment vendor, these recommendations are provided merely as a selection of components that we know will work with this frame.

  • Motor:
Please note that the Wyvern is only drilled for 22XX motors; it will not take 18XX motors.
We have run Xnova, Cobra and EMAX motors on the Wyvern with great success. Feel free to select your preferred 22XX motor.
  • ESCs:
There are plenty of good 20A-30A ESCs on the market, choose your favorite. The only recommendation here is to get a small footprint, lightweight style ESC that supports high refresh rate (e.g. Oneshot125) and active braking (e.g. Damped Light).
  • Propeller:
The Wyvern will fit up to a 5" prop; we have had excellent success with both 5050BN Tri-Blades and 4045BN Tri-Blades. However, be sure to match the prop to your selected power system.
  • Flight Controller:
What, you think we want to start a political debate?
  • VTX:
Important note. The 3D printed parts supplied with the Wyvern are designed around a compact VTX with a straight antenna connector. If you select a different VTX you will have to provide your own mounting mechanism. The following VTXs will fit the Wyvern with no modifications.
    Lumenier TX5G2R
    SkyZone TS5823 VTX
    Eachine ET200 VTX
  • Camera:
The Wyvern is designed around a 28mm X 28mm board camera. Although there are several other cameras that will work, this is the one we run on all our board camera quads due to its excellent performance.
    RunCam PZ0420M Board Camera
  • Battery:
Many batteries can be used on the Wyvern; we have been flying mostly 1300mAh to 1550mAh 4S high C rated batteries for a good balance of power, weight and flight time. We have run both LiPo and LiHv batteries on our equipment without problems.
